One of the premiere church's in Cobb County, Wesley Chapel was founded in 1879 by Thomas Wesley Garrison. The lumber for the original church was cut and milled in the local area. The labor to build the church was donated by members and friends of the church. In 1941, Wesley Chapel was on the Marietta Circuit, Which included Holly Springs, Mt. Bethel, Antioch, New Lebanon (now East Cobb), and New Hope. In 1955, worship was held each second and third Sunday morning, and every first and fourth Sunday evening. In the 1960's, Virgil Mabry donated property along A new Fellowship Hall was consecrated on June 7, 1970. A fire destroyed the sanctuary in 1972. The congregation met in the Fellowship Hall until the completion of the new and current sanctuary in September 1979. Growth continued adding a new parsonage in 1979, and in 1990 the congregation was able to occupy a lovely new Family Ministries Center. As the community has grown, so has Wesley Chapel. At the end of 1960, the church had 137 members. By the end of 2005 the congregation had grown to a membership of over 700. Wesley Chapel continues to expand it's ministries to it's membership and the community. Its people expect the future to be even more exciting than the past. |
